Calcium and magnesium salts in water are called softener. Water of hardness can cause many problems in industrial uses due to high sedimentation and corrosion. Sedimentation and problems caused by water of hardness become more apparent with increasing temperature. The most efficient way to remove settling ions and water hardness compounds is, using the resin softener devices.

Output soft water from this machine is desirable for industrial uses, boiler feed and heating installations.

Disadvantages and Problems of using Hardness Water in Industrial Uses:

  • Creation of calcareous sediments and corrosion on the internal wall of heating installations, pipes and pumps

Reduce heat transfer efficiency and increase energy conspicuous consumption due to thick sediment layers

The work basis of water softener devices is the use of ion-exchange process by a material called resins. The properties of resins are that when they exposed to hardness water, their sodium ions are dislocated with existing sediment ions in water, such as calcium and magnesium, and in fact the hardness of water absorbs by the resins. The sodium ion is completely water soluble contrary to calcium and magnesium salts, and does not desire to sedimentation. The ion exchange will continue until all of the sodium of resins are replaced by calcium and magnesium of water, after the super saturated of resins and filling their capacity, they must be restored and reclaimed. The further reclamation of these types of resins is accomplished by passing a concentrated solution of sodium chloride (common salt) through the resin bed. This is easily accomplished via the piping system and by changing the situation of a multiport valve on the device, which has an injector for automatic suction of salt water and resin wash.
